The International Conference Planning in the Era of Uncertainty (ICPEU) is organized and hosted by the Regional and Urban Planning Department, Engineering Faculty, Universitas Brawijaya, Indonesia. This year, the 7th ICPEU will be held online in September 2025.
The biannual ICPEU commits to fostering vibrant exchanges and collaborations among academics, practitioners, policymakers, and communities in dealing with the Global South and its issues. The realities of urban informality, inequality, and social justice, especially in rapidly urbanising regions, further highlight the need for equity-focused planning. Informal systems play an essential role in providing housing, services, and livelihoods for marginalised communities, particularly in the Global South. Planning that recognises and integrates these systems promotes urban development that is not only resilient but also socially just, recognising the invaluable contributions of informal practices to urban life.
These varied insights form the foundation of the 7th International Conference on Planning in the Era of Uncertainty, themed “Navigating Uncertainty: Harmonising the Formal and Informal Planning Approaches for a Resilient Future.” The conference seeks to bridge formal policies and community-driven practices to create planning strategies that are resilient, adaptable, and inclusive. Bringing together experts, researchers, policymakers, and practitioners, the conference aims to generate actionable insights and policy recommendations to address the uncertainties facing urban and regional planning. With contributions from engineering, social sciences, public policy, and indigenous knowledge, this collaborative event strives to map pathways toward a more resilient and sustainable future. The prospective authors are kindly encouraged to share and contribute the knowledge-values into three primary sub-themes, emphasising the synergy between formal and informal approaches:
- Adaptation and Resilience of Infrastructure and Environment in the Face of Uncertainty (Code: INF-RES)
- Urban Design Innovation and Community Participation: Towards Responsive and Inclusive Planning (Code: URB-INC)
- Synergy of Regional Planning and Public Policy for Resilience and Sustainability (Code: REG-SYN)
